Program

Day 1 is the 4th WG meeting of EURO-MIC Cost action and is exclusively for EURO-MIC members. To get a member is still possible and free of any costs: Learn more. This day event will give an update on all the activities in the “EURO-MIC Cost action” in the morning. It takes place at the Endures laboratories at Fort Harssens in Den Helder.

In the afternoon we will start the social event and do a guided underground tour to have a look into the old parts of the Fort and the old seawater facilities to the labs, we climb into a submarine, visit an old navy ship and listen to some history of Den Helder and the Royal Dutch Navy.

We finish the day with dinner and drinks at Fort Westoever.

Day 2 is the “MIC & marine corrosion symposium”. It is for EURO-MIC members and invited academical/ industrial partners. It is also the celebration of 60 years corrosion knowledge in-house at the Endures laboratories in Den Helder. This event takes place at METIP, Willemsoord 51 (former navy yard) in Den Helder.

We will have a diverse program including some scientific presentations but also case studies from industry will be shown and we will have time for demo sessions and interactive networking.

On this day we will focus on MIC, marine environment but also on monitoring and sensoring, the main objective of WG3 of the EURO-MIC Cost action. Early detection of conditions that favor the initiation of MIC, such as biofilm formation and changes in the local environment due to microbiological activity, is a powerful tool enabling proactive measures with minimal interference to process workflows, equipment and environment. The main objective of WG3 is to collect and screen available monitoring strategies and sensor technologies to identify technological gaps and to devise concepts for the development of field-capable monitoring methods and sensors. A special focus is on the identification of technologies that are currently not applied to MIC. Companies in sensor technologies join the event and demonstrate their equipment in the demo/ interactive session of the event. In the afternoon we will walk back to the Endures laboratories for a lab tour and some demonstrations such as a demonstration of a cleaning robot in our natural seawater basin, equipment for diagniosing and monitoring of MIC and corrosion and much more. We finish the day with some drinks and snacks at Fort Harssens.
